Adventures in D.C.

Growing up in the Washington D.C. area, I have spent many weekends and summers going to the free sights that it offers.  Most summers, I go to the National Zoo with the kids that I babysit. We usually spend the morning walking around the Zoo and seeing our favorite animals. We always bring snacks and waters with us because the food inside can often be quite expensive.

On the Mall there are many free monuments that are great to see.  We usually go to the Capitol, the Reflecting Pool, the World War II memorial, The White House, the Washington Monument, the tidal basin, and the Jefferson Memorial.  Last summer when we went to the Mall we brought a picnic lunch, a soccer ball, a Frisbee and always a lot of water.

There are also many free Museums right along the National Mall.  The kid’s favorites have always been the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space Museum. Here is the Smithsonian site with information about all the museums and exhibits it has to offer.

I take advantage of these fun and free activities any chance I get and the kids love the adventure!
